We are proud to announce the arrival of Australian Shepherd Puppy Pack #4 on October 3, 2023. There are 6 males and 4 females in this litter and we can't wait to introduce you to all of them!
Our little puppies are almost one week old now — they can't walk, hear or see yet so they spend all their time nursing with momma and snuggled up with one another just like they were in the womb. During this time, we let mom spend as much time with the puppies as possible and don't like to interrupt her process.
It can be difficult to take individual photos of the puppies at this stage, but we've updated our Current Litter page and have a few individual photos on their profiles. We do have more photos available here from the first week of these sweet puppies.
We do have puppies available, if you're interested please fill out an application and we'll be in touch shortly!
At one week old, these Australian Shepherd puppies are still very much in the newborn stage. However, they already exhibit several fascinating characteristics that showcase their potential:
Newborn Australian Shepherd Puppy Traits
1. Sleepy Cuddlers: Newborn puppies sleep the majority of the time. When they are awake, they wobble around unsteadily, making adorable attempts to explore their surroundings.
2. Squeaky Vocals: Their vocal cords are quite active, and they'll make soft, high-pitched squeaks when they're hungry or need attention.
3. Fuzzy Furballs: These one-week-old pups are covered in a soft layer of downy fur, which will continue to grow and change in color as they develop.
4. Milk-Driven: Puppies at this age primarily rely on their mother's milk for nourishment, and you can often find them in a cozy huddle, feeding contentedly.
Care and Nurturing
Raising one-week-old puppies is a labor of love. The mother dog, often called a dam, does the majority of the work. She feeds, cleans, and comforts her little ones, providing them with the warmth and security they need. Meanwhile, the human caregivers play a supportive role:
1. Hygiene: Ensuring that the puppies and their environment are clean and free from any potential hazards is essential. Puppies can't regulate their body temperature effectively at this age, so a warm, dry bedding area is crucial.
2. Weight Monitoring: Keeping an eye on the puppies' weight gain is important to ensure they are thriving. If a puppy isn't gaining weight, it may be necessary to supplement their diet.
3. Socialization: While the puppies are still tiny, they can be gently introduced to gentle human interaction. This early socialization helps them become well-adjusted and sociable adults.
4. Future Planning: Even at one week old, it's a good time to start thinking about their future. Their forever homes will need to be carefully chosen, and potential owners may already be expressing interest.
The Joy They Bring
The presence of one-week-old Australian Shepherd puppies is like a burst of sunshine in the room. Their sweet faces, tiny paws, and endearing antics are bound to bring smiles to everyone who encounters them. These puppies serve as a reminder of the beauty and purity of new life and the unconditional love that animals can bring into our lives.
