We are excited to introduce Wheezy, a male, black, white and tan, Tri-Color, Australian Shepherd puppy born Oct. 3, 2023. Wheezy is available for adoption, and will be ready to go to his new home, pending a healthy vet check, starting Dec. 1, 2023. He has been growing quickly in the upper percentile of the litter, and will likely be around 50 lbs. max.
Wheezy has tan markings above his eyes, giving him the appearance of having eyebrows, which is so cute and unique! He has a skinny white marking down his face between his eyes, white markings on his stomach and chest, and what will likely be a full "collar" of white around his neck. He has white paws, giving him the appearance of having white socks on, and tan markings on his legs and cheeks as well.
If you're interesting in Wheezy, or one of our other Australian Shepherd puppies, please fill out our Puppy Application and we'll be in contact with further details.
More About Australian Shepherd Puppies
Our litter of 10 Australian Shepherd puppies still have their eyes and ears closed, and are only able to army crawl around on their bellies right now. Let's dig further into the life of a two-week old Australian Shepherd puppy.
The Early Days
Australian Shepherd puppies are born in litters, each one unique in appearance and personality. At two weeks old, these puppies have just started to open their eyes, revealing the world around them for the first time. Their senses are rapidly developing, and they begin to gain some semblance of balance and coordination.
Appearance
One of the most striking features of Australian Shepherd puppies is their coat. Their fur can be found in a variety of colors, including black, blue merle, red, and red merle. Even at two weeks old, you can see hints of their future coat color in their markings. The blue merle puppies might have mottled patterns, while the red and red merle puppies often have distinct spots or patches.
Size
At two weeks old, Australian Shepherd puppies are still quite small. On average, they weigh around 1-2 pounds. Despite their tiny size, they possess a remarkable zest for life. You'll often find them wobbling around, exploring their surroundings and playfully interacting with their littermates.
Socialization
Socialization is a crucial part of a puppy's early development. Australian Shepherd puppies begin to learn social skills and develop their personalities during these formative weeks. They spend a significant amount of time with their mother and littermates, engaging in playful interactions that help them build social bonds and learn bite inhibition.
Personality
Even at two weeks old, Australian Shepherd puppies display their intelligence and strong work ethic. These are traits that have made them popular choices as herding and working dogs. While their personalities are still developing, you can often see glimpses of their future roles. Some might show an innate curiosity, while others might exhibit an early fascination with herding instincts, even playfully nipping at their littermates.
Care
Proper care and nurturing are essential during this crucial stage of development. Puppies should be kept in a clean, warm, and safe environment. They are typically still nursing at this age, but some may start to show an interest in puppy food, although they won't be fully weaned for several weeks. Regular veterinary check-ups are also important to ensure they are healthy and developing appropriately.
